Sources of Inspiration

Far and away my largest source of inspiration comes from Anna Hrachovec's "Mochimochi Land." Hrachovec has both a successful website and an ongoing series of books dedicated to showing off her knitted wares. I've attached some shots of her books and creations below.

My favorite aspects of her creations involve their imaginative designs, and often, their extremely small sizes. I find something especially enjoyable about working within such small measurements. It's always amazing to see just how much can be create with so little. As a college student, it doesn't hurt that the smaller the finished product, the less yarn needed to make it a reality.

When coming up with my own designs, I draw from some of my favorite parts of popular culture. Lately, I've had great fun bringing items from my favorite video games and tv shows into the real world. Examples include recreating the cloak from the game Journey and a bow tie from Doctor Who.

Going back to the subject of working within a budget, I must say that some of my work comes out of trying to use every last bit of scrap yarn I have around. Whether it's a new scarf, a fancy bow-tie, or a tiny knit toy, I love being able to pull together the leftovers of other projects to create a unique item.

Once my blog is up and running, I plan to catalog any new inspirations that come up in my designs.
